Ghostwriting Services

You Have the Story. We Have the Writers.

Not everyone who has a book in them has the eight hundred hours it takes to write one. Our ghostwriters interview you properly, build the structure, and deliver a finished manuscript that reads as though you wrote it on your very best day — with your name, and only your name, on the cover.

The Service

A Ghostwriter Is Not a Ventriloquist. You Are Still the Author.

The best ghostwriting does not sound like a professional writer. It sounds like you — your phrasing, your humour, your way of arriving at a point — with the repetition, the tangents and the throat-clearing quietly removed.

It starts with listening. Your writer runs a series of recorded interviews, usually six to twelve hours in total, drawing out the material you would never have thought to include and the detail that makes a story land. Alongside that we work from whatever you already have: half-finished drafts, voice notes, diaries, letters, slide decks, blog posts, or three decades of accumulated expertise you have never written down.

From that raw material your writer builds a chapter-by-chapter outline for your approval. Nothing is drafted until you have signed off the shape of the book, because rewriting an outline costs an afternoon and rewriting a manuscript costs a season. Then chapters arrive in batches, you respond, and the voice tightens with every round.

  • Recorded discovery interviews
  • Voice and style analysis
  • Approved outline before drafting
  • Chapters delivered in batches
  • Research and fact-checking
  • Full rights assigned to you

What We Write

Six Kinds of Book We Are Asked For Most.

Each comes with its own craft. A memoir needs an ear for how people actually speak; a leadership book needs an argument that survives a sceptical reader on page forty.

01

Memoir & Life Story

Our most requested

Sixty, seventy, ninety years of living, shaped into a book your family will still be reading in a century. We find the throughline in a life that felt, from the inside, like one thing after another.

  • Interview-led, gently paced
  • Photo sections and family trees
  • Private editions for family only
02

Business & Leadership

Authority building

The book that wins the keynote, the board seat and the inbound enquiry. Your methodology structured into a framework readers can actually apply, backed by your own case studies.

  • Framework and model development
  • Case studies written from interview
  • Positioned for speaking and PR
03

Fiction & Novels

Genre-matched writers

You have the premise, the world or the characters but not the runway. A novelist working in your genre builds the plot architecture and writes the book to a professional standard.

  • Plot and character architecture
  • Series planning where relevant
  • Genre-authentic pacing and voice
04

Self-Help & Wellbeing

Practitioner books

For coaches, therapists and practitioners whose method works in the room but has never been written down. We turn a practice into a programme a reader can follow alone.

  • Exercises and reflective prompts
  • Sensitive handling of client stories
  • Clear, warm, non-clinical prose
05

Children’s & Young Adult

Age-banded craft

Picture book, early reader, middle grade or YA — each has its own vocabulary ceiling, word count and rhythm. Written by people who know the difference and read the market.

  • Age-appropriate vocabulary control
  • Illustration briefs where needed
  • Read-aloud rhythm testing
06

Rewrite & Book Doctoring

For existing drafts

You finished a draft and it is not working. Rather than starting again, a writer takes what you have, keeps everything worth keeping, and rebuilds the rest around it.

  • Salvages your existing material
  • Often faster and cheaper than new
  • Honest assessment before you commit

Discretion by Contract

Nobody Will Ever Know We Were Here.

Ghostwriting only works if the arrangement stays yours to disclose or not. Our agreements permanently assign every right, every claim and all credit to you before a single word is written. Your writer is contractually barred from naming you as a client, using the work in a portfolio, or claiming authorship — permanently, not for a term.

Request an NDA
  • Mutual NDA signed before disclosure
  • Full copyright assigned to you
  • Writer named nowhere on the book
  • No portfolio or marketing use, ever
  • Interview recordings returned or destroyed
  • Milestone payments, never all upfront

How It Works

From First Conversation to Finished Manuscript.

You stay in control at every stage, and you see the writing long before you have paid for all of it.

Discovery & Matching

We talk about the book you want and why. You are then matched with two or three writers, read their sample work, and choose the voice that feels closest to yours.

Interviews & Outline

Recorded sessions gather the raw material, then your writer builds a chapter-by-chapter outline. Nothing is drafted until you have approved the shape.

Chapters in Batches

Drafts arrive in agreed batches with a milestone payment attached to each. You read, react and redirect while the book is still easy to steer.

Revision & Handover

Two full revision rounds on the complete manuscript, then the finished file, the rights assignment and every recording, handed over in full.

Voice Matching

How We Make It Sound Like You.

Voice is not a mystery. It is a set of measurable habits: sentence length, vocabulary range, how often you use humour, whether you arrive at the point directly or circle it first.

Before drafting, your writer builds a voice profile from your interview recordings and anything you have already written — emails, posts, talks, previous attempts at the book. We note the phrases you actually use, the ones you would never use, and the rhythm of how you explain something to a friend versus an audience.

That profile travels with the manuscript, and it is why the first batch of chapters usually lands close and the second lands closer. Where a passage does not sound like you, you say so plainly and we correct the profile, not just the paragraph — so the same mistake does not repeat in chapter nine.

  • Voice profile built before drafting
  • Your real phrases catalogued
  • Read-aloud testing on each batch
  • Profile corrected, not just the text
  • Free writer swap after sample chapter
  • You approve every chapter

The Kingswell Difference

Why UK Authors Choose Kingswell.

We are a British publishing services company, not a rights-taking publisher. That single distinction shapes everything below.

You Keep Every Right and Every Royalty

Copyright stays registered in your name and retailer accounts are opened in your name. We take no commission and no revenue share — one hundred per cent of what your book earns is paid straight to you.

One Named Project Manager

No ticket queues and no being passed between departments. A single publishing consultant coordinates every specialist on your book and stays your point of contact from first call to launch day.

Genre-Matched Specialists

A thriller needs different instincts to a memoir, and a business book different rigour to a children’s picture book. Your project is staffed by people with a track record in your specific genre.

Honest Scoping, Fixed Quotes

We tell you what your book genuinely needs and what it does not. Every quote is agreed in writing before work begins, so there are no mid-project surprises and no upselling.

Confidential by Default

Your manuscript is only ever seen by the specialists working on it. NDAs come as standard and your identity, your story and your ideas are never shared or reused.

British Publishing Standards

Based in Fitzrovia, London. We work in UK English by default, price in pounds sterling, and typeset to the trade standards British readers and booksellers expect.

Common Questions

Ghostwriting FAQs.

Credit, confidentiality, cost and how much of your own time this will actually take.

Will anyone know the book was ghostwritten?
Only if you tell them. Your name is the only one on the cover, the copyright page and the retailer listings. Our ghostwriting agreements permanently assign all rights and all credit to you, and bar the writer from ever naming you as a client or using the work in a portfolio. Some authors choose to thank their writer in the acknowledgements; most do not, and both are entirely normal.
How much of my own time will this take?
Far less than writing it yourself, but this is not a service you can be absent from. Expect six to twelve hours of recorded interviews spread over the first few weeks, then roughly two to four hours per chapter batch for reading and feedback. Across a full book that usually totals thirty to fifty hours of your time, against the eight hundred or so it would take to write it.
How much does ghostwriting cost?
Ghostwriting is quoted per project because the variables are enormous — a 25,000-word business book and a 120,000-word family memoir are not comparable pieces of work. Price depends on length, genre, research load and how much usable material you already have. Payment is always split into milestones tied to delivered chapters, never taken as a single upfront sum, and the quote is fixed in writing before we start.
How long does a ghostwritten book take?
Four to eight months for a full-length manuscript is typical: roughly a month for interviews and outlining, three to five months of drafting, and a month for revisions. Shorter business books can be done in ten to twelve weeks. The single biggest variable is your own turnaround on feedback — authors who reply within a week finish months earlier than those who take six.
What if I do not like the writing?
You see a sample chapter before the bulk of the work begins, and if the voice is not right you can swap to a different writer at no cost. Beyond that, every batch comes with a feedback round, and the complete manuscript gets two full revision passes. Because payment is tied to delivered milestones, you are never in a position of having paid for a book you have not read.
Do I need to have started writing already?
No. Plenty of clients arrive with nothing but a strong idea and a willingness to talk. Others bring a folder of notes, an abandoned draft or thirty years of professional material. Both are workable — existing material tends to shorten the interview stage rather than change the process.
Can you write about real people and events?
Yes, and we will flag anything that carries legal risk. Memoir routinely involves living people, and our writers are used to handling it — changing identifying details, seeking permissions where sensible, and drawing your attention to passages that could raise defamation or privacy concerns under UK law. For anything genuinely contentious we will recommend you take independent legal advice before publication.
Do you use AI to write the manuscript?
No. Your book is written by a named human ghostwriter who has interviewed you and read your material. That is the whole point of the service — a machine cannot hear the pause before you tell the difficult part of the story. Your interviews, notes and manuscript are never fed into a training system.
