The Service

The Admin That Decides Whether Anyone Finds You.

Publishing a book is a series of unglamorous technical decisions — which categories, which keywords, what price, which territories, what discount to the trade, returns on or off. Get them wrong and a good book simply never surfaces.

We set all of it up properly. Your ISBNs are registered to you as the publisher of record, not to us and not to a retailer’s free imprint, which means the book stays yours across every platform. Metadata is written for discovery: BISAC and Thema categories chosen from where the readers actually are, keywords researched against real search demand, and a description formatted for each retailer’s quirks.

Then distribution. Amazon in every marketplace for print and Kindle, plus Apple Books, Kobo and Google Play, plus the IngramSpark trade catalogue that makes your book orderable by high-street bookshops and library suppliers across the UK and beyond.

  • ISBN registration in your name
  • BISAC and Thema categorisation
  • Keyword and category research
  • Retailer-optimised descriptions
  • Print-on-demand setup
  • Global territory and pricing config

What Publishing Involves

Six Jobs Between a Finished File and a Book on Sale.

Each one is straightforward on its own. Doing all six correctly, in the right order, is where most independent launches come unstuck.

01

ISBN & Imprint Setup

Ownership from day one

A separate ISBN for each format, registered with you named as publisher, plus your own imprint name if you want one. Registered on the UK Nielsen database so booksellers can actually find the record.

  • One ISBN per format and edition
  • You listed as publisher of record
  • Nielsen and Bowker registration
02

Metadata & Categories

How readers find you

The single highest-leverage hour in a launch. Categories chosen where your book can realistically rank, keywords researched against genuine search volume, and comparison titles set to place you beside the right neighbours.

  • BISAC and Thema subject codes
  • Researched keyword set per retailer
  • Comparable-title positioning
03

Print on Demand

No stock, no risk

Copies printed only when ordered, so you never buy a pallet of books that lives in your garage. Paper stock, binding and finish specified per format, with proof copies sent to you before the book goes live.

  • Paperback, hardback and large print
  • Physical proof copy before launch
  • No minimum order, no stock held
04

Offset Print Runs

For events and bulk

When you need five hundred copies for a launch, a conference or a corporate order, offset printing drops the unit cost substantially. We manage the quote, the proof and the delivery to your door.

  • Quotes from vetted UK printers
  • Special finishes and foiling
  • Bulk and corporate orders handled
05

Worldwide Distribution

Print and digital

Listings built and configured across every major retailer and the Ingram trade catalogue, with territory rights, regional pricing and trade discount settings chosen deliberately rather than left on defaults.

  • Amazon in all marketplaces
  • Apple, Kobo, Google Play, Barnes & Noble
  • IngramSpark trade and library reach
06

Pricing & Royalty Setup

Getting paid correctly

Retail price modelled against print cost, category norms and the royalty band that actually pays best, plus the tax and banking setup so international earnings reach you without being withheld unnecessarily.

  • Price and royalty modelling
  • Regional pricing per market
  • Tax and payment configuration

The Important Part

We Publish It. You Own It.

A great many publishing services put their own name on your ISBN, open retailer accounts in their name and pay you a share of what comes in. We do the opposite, deliberately. Every account is opened in your name with your login and your bank details attached, so Amazon pays you, not us. There is no exclusivity clause, no term and no exit fee. If you decide to move on, nothing needs to be transferred, because it was never ours.

How It Works

From Final Files to On Sale.

Around a week once your interior and cover are locked, plus retailer review time before the listings go live.

Setup & ISBNs

Accounts are opened in your name, ISBNs assigned per format and your imprint registered. Banking and tax details are configured so payments reach you cleanly.

Metadata & Pricing

We research categories and keywords, write the retailer descriptions, and model your pricing against print cost and the royalty bands for each market.

Proof & Approve

A physical proof copy is printed and sent to you. Nothing goes live until you have held the book, checked the colour and signed it off.

Distribution Live

Listings publish across every agreed retailer and the Ingram catalogue. We verify each one appears correctly and hand you every login and password.

Distribution Reach

Published in London. Sold Everywhere.

Your book listed where readers already shop, in the formats they already buy, priced correctly for each market.

The Kingswell Difference

Why UK Authors Choose Kingswell.

We are a British publishing services company, not a rights-taking publisher. That single distinction shapes everything below.

You Keep Every Right and Every Royalty

Copyright stays registered in your name and retailer accounts are opened in your name. We take no commission and no revenue share — one hundred per cent of what your book earns is paid straight to you.

One Named Project Manager

No ticket queues and no being passed between departments. A single publishing consultant coordinates every specialist on your book and stays your point of contact from first call to launch day.

Genre-Matched Specialists

A thriller needs different instincts to a memoir, and a business book different rigour to a children’s picture book. Your project is staffed by people with a track record in your specific genre.

Honest Scoping, Fixed Quotes

We tell you what your book genuinely needs and what it does not. Every quote is agreed in writing before work begins, so there are no mid-project surprises and no upselling.

Confidential by Default

Your manuscript is only ever seen by the specialists working on it. NDAs come as standard and your identity, your story and your ideas are never shared or reused.

British Publishing Standards

Based in Fitzrovia, London. We work in UK English by default, price in pounds sterling, and typeset to the trade standards British readers and booksellers expect.

Common Questions

Publishing & Printing FAQs.

ISBNs, royalties, bookshops, timelines and what happens to your book if you stop working with us.

Who owns the ISBN and the publishing accounts?
You do. ISBNs are registered with you named as publisher of record, and every retailer and print account is opened in your name with your email and your bank details attached. We are given access to set things up and then hand over all logins. This matters more than it sounds: if a service registers your ISBN to themselves, changing provider later means republishing the book with a new ISBN and losing your reviews and sales history.
Do you take a percentage of my royalties?
No, not on any plan. You pay once for professional work and retailers pay one hundred per cent of your royalties directly into your account. We never sit between you and your money, and we have no ongoing financial claim on the book. What Amazon or Ingram pays out after their own retail cut is entirely yours.
Will my book actually be in bookshops?
It will be orderable by any bookshop in the UK and most of the world, listed in the trade catalogues buyers use, with the trade discount and returns settings shops expect. Whether a particular branch chooses to stock physical copies on a shelf is always that shop’s commercial decision — no publishing service can promise otherwise, and you should be sceptical of any that does. What we can do is make sure nothing about your listing gives a buyer a reason to say no.
How long until my book is on sale?
About a week of setup work once your interior and cover files are final, then retailer review time on top. Amazon Kindle usually appears within 72 hours; print listings and Ingram distribution typically take one to three weeks to propagate fully across every channel. If you have a fixed launch date, tell us early and we will work backwards from it.
Should I use print on demand or an offset print run?
Print on demand for retail, almost always — no upfront cost, no stock risk, and copies printed as orders arrive. Offset only makes sense when you need volume in hand: a launch event, a conference, a corporate bulk order or a school. The crossover point is usually somewhere around three to five hundred copies, and we will run the actual numbers for your specific book rather than guess.
Can you publish a book that is already out?
Yes. We regularly take over titles that were published badly or are stranded with a service the author wants to leave. Depending on how the original was set up we can either take over the existing listings or republish as a new edition. We will audit what exists first and tell you honestly which route keeps more of your reviews and ranking history.
What price should my book be?
We model it rather than guess. Print cost sets a floor, category norms set a realistic ceiling, and retailer royalty bands create specific price points that pay disproportionately better — Kindle’s 70 per cent band being the obvious one. We will show you the numbers for two or three price options and their royalty per sale, and you decide.
What happens if I stop working with Kingswell?
Nothing happens to your book. The accounts, the ISBNs and the listings are already yours, the logins are already in your possession, and there is no contract term to run out. You simply carry on, or hand the logins to whoever you work with next. There is no exit process because there is nothing to extract.
